I really enjoyed the breakfast taco with avocado. I was told the bagels are excellent and freshly made. Very good service but smiling friendly staff. It's really nice to sit on the patio and soak in the atmosphere.

Quick Hits: - Quick, above average bagel - Nice outdoor seating area Full Scoop: Was looking for a quick breakfast while biking on Block Island and came across the Old Post Office Bagel Shop which is just outside of the main Old Harbor area. Customers order at a counter, wait for their bagel to be ready and then sit outside (no indoor seating). When I got there around 11AM, there were only 5 types of bagels left, but looks like they have up to 12 a day based on all of the empty bins. They also offered muffins, croissants and a few other baked goods. I ordered an everything bagel toasted with butter. The bagel was OK, nothing special. It was a little bit thinner than what I typically like, but it got the job done. I would go back if I was looking for breakfast and was already nearby, but wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

This morning breakfast was on the patio at the Post Office Bagel shop. I know it's summer but by mid July the kinks should be worked out and I shouldn't have to stand in line for 20 minutes before my order is placed. Yes, the fruit salad was fresh as was my blueberry muffin and my husbands iced coffee and breakfast tortilla. No denying it was all very good but... The line time just wasn't fun.

The bagels at this place are very good, and I enjoyed the egg and cheese sandwich I got, and my friends enjoyed their bagels as well. The one drawback was that the manager was rude to me at checkout.

This seems to be THE place for breakfast. The lines can be pretty long, but a good place for bagels and coffee! They also offer some lunch items, but we did not go back.

I really didn't think the bagels were anything to write home about. In fact, my bagel tasted like the frozen kind that's sold in the freezer aisle at the supermarket. And before you write back and tell me you lived in NYC and how you're some self-appointed pompous authority on bagels, save your keystrokes. I lived there too.

Pros: iced coffee and the enormous, yummy muffins. The iced coffee is fresh tasting, and the muffins are HUGE and really tasty. Cons: major major problems with management. The manager or male in charge, yells at ALL OF THE STAFF. He screamed at some young kid for spilling coffee grounds. He's always unfriendly, and it spreads. Lot of unhappy faces. It IS super pricy. For a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel- $7. Lastly, they rarely use gloves; the place looks dirty, it's alway really hot with flies in the case, and the staff coughed and sneeZed on my food while making it on two different occasions. I asked them to make new bagels with gloves or to wash their hands. They genuinely seemed surprised. My fiancé also got a really bad case of food poisoning from one of their deli sandwiches. Baked goods are pretty tasty, but steer clear from meat or any other item that can go bad. I have been coming to block island for 10 years. This place needs to get its act together. Until it cleans up, I won't be back.

Whenever the wife and I was not enjoying breakfast at The Surf Hotel, we would grab something at the Old Post Office Bagel Shop. One poster was right, this place serves quality bagels. They are not just surving just because they happen to be the sole bagel shop on the island. The line was out the door everymorning. There is a method here where the person that takes your order makes everything for you; including your egg sandwiches. There was no dedicated person on the gril, at least mornings I was there. That same person is also responsible for ringing you up. Pretty much they take care of you from the minute you order to the minute you pay. I guess it works. I don't drink iced coffee but for some reason I had no issues drinking iced coffee from here. Another great way to start your morning on Block Island. Yes it is moderately priced for a bagel shop on block island

The bagels here are very, very good- you can't argue with that. The coffee is decent (although "Juice 'n Java Coffee House" is much better for your coffee needs) and outdoor seating is a plus. But, and this is a big but, I find it hard to stomach anyplace charging 9 bucks or so just for a bagel and a couple of coffees to go. Even for the Island that's a little steep. If you, like me most days, are trying to be thrifty [I should clarify that I only WORK on the Island, I'm not a rich a tourist] then you'd be better off heading around the corner to Block Island Grocery; where you can nab a delicious fresh baked muffin and a cup o' joe at a reasonable price. That said, if you're in town and have money to blow on a real nice bagel, "the Old Post Office" is for you. Try the pumpernickel toasted with cream cheese- their pumpernickel is like a normal pumpernickel that fell into the "everything" toppings bin before being baked: it's a roasty-toasty, crunchy onion, veggie-spice masterpiece! I truly love it. It's sad that I can't give this place a better rating. But I do believe the prices are out of whack here. Even for this extravagant rock 13 miles from anywhere.

Great place to get stuff for breakfast on the Block. They have very good bagels, very similar to authentic NY style, not at all like those sad faux-bagels Dunkin Donuts hawks. My favorite thing about the OPOBS though is their croissants. These are delicious. Buttery, flaky, just wicked good! Another very cool thing about this place is they have cool art magazines on the counters so while you drink a good cup of joe you can browse Art Forum and Art News. Cool place run by people who put obvious care and thought into what they're doing.

This is not the traditional B I. Bagels don't belong on BI, in fact. I preferred it as a PO. Not special or typical.

The place for Bagels on BI, but last one I had was not "toasted" enough???

Went to get a bite to eat and was highly disappointed with their "colossal" muffins. They only had 2 options--a cranberry bran muffin or coffee cake. We decided on the muffins--took the last 2--and sat down to eat them. Firstly--the service was fine but there was a language barrier and the cashier couldn't entirely understand us. Secondly, and most importantly, the bagel was practically inedible. It was so eggy and wet--not moist in a good way but tasteless and like it hadn't been cooked enough. We were both highly disappointed. I live on the island all summer and will not go back to this cafe again.

A great place for bagel and muffins. Had a tasty cranberry muffin here and they had lots of great looking bagels and pastries. I would happily go back again.

I felt like Rachel Ray going to this spot. My pumpernickel bagel was perfectly crusty on the outside and gooey on the inside. My decaf iced coffee was also perfect. I also got a homemade granola bar to go. You must get one of these grand honeylicious entities; unlike any granola bar I've had before. Afterwards, sit on the veranda on your adirondack chair, read the paper, and feel the breeze or people watch. Nowhere better for a Saturday morn.

Salt bagel with lox.... Enough said I make sure that this is one of the must go to places every time that I visit the island. Be ready for a long wait but it's is completely worth is. Check out their blueberry muffins, too! My toddler can't get enough

I love that this place is within walking distance from me! The bagels are delicious -- not what you'd find at a Dunkin' Donuts. They're thick, chewy, and full of flavor. Employees are generous with the cream cheese. I've also enjoyed their peach scones and gargantuan blueberry muffins. These baked goods aren't terribly sweet, but I like them all the more for that. There's hardly any room to sit inside, so come on a sunny day and enjoy the patio.
